Youth Basketball registrations have begun for 3rd through 8th grade.  The format for 5th/6th and 7th/8th grades has changed a bit for this season.  These divisions will form separate boys and girls teams, and will play games against, Portola, Loyalton, and Indian Valley.  These teams will practice on weekday evenings and play the majority of their games on Saturdays.  The 3rd/4th grade division will remain the same and will practice and play their games on weekday evenings at Quincy High School.  The deadline to register is Friday, November 21st, so get down to the CPRPD office and sign-up soon.

CPRPD Youth Basketball sign-ups have officially begun!  The levels of participation for Youth Soccer have been great, and we are hopeful that those numbers will roll over into Youth Basketball!  Youth Basketball leagues are offered for 3rd-8th graders, and there is a weekly basketball clinic offered for K-2nd graders.  We are especially excited for what is in store for the Jr. High division, as we have already been given a commitment from Indian Valley for at least 2 teams to help diversify the competition that is faced each week!  The more participants we get, the better each league will be, so come down to the CPRPD office and get signed up!

The annual CPRPD summer soccer camp was held last week at Feather River College.  The camp hosted players ranging in ages from 5-17.  The camp was broken down into 4 separate groups based on age and skill level.  There were 53 campers all together this year.  The coaches running the camp were FRC soccer coach Don Williams, Juan Nunez, Gabriela Erazo, and Jeren Seibel.  We can't thank the coaches enough for all the work they put in during the week.  A great time and a lot of learning was had by all the participants, and we look forward to an even bigger and better camp next summer!

The Central Plumas Recreation and Park District's K/1st/2nd grade basketball program finished another season this last week.  The program, which is designed to introduce young kids to basketball in a clinic format, was held at the Plumas-Sierra Fairgrounds once a week for eight weeks and had thirty-five participants in all.  The weekly clinic is made possible through a partnership between CPRPD and Feather River College baseball.  Each week a group of baseball players, directed by head coach Terry Baumgartner and assistant coach Jason Gay, volunteer their time to help teach the fundamentals of basketball and give kids an opportunity to get some exercise in the winter.

"I can't say enough about the job that Coach Baumgartner, Coach Gay and their guys did this season.  They have been running this program for several years now, and always do a great job.  Collaboration like this within the community is a necessity to make these programs happen.  It is selfless volunteerism like these coaches and players have displayed that continues to allow kids in our community to have the opportunity to participate in activities that promote health and well-being.  A big thanks to everyone that helped out, and also thank you to the Plumas-Sierra Fairgrounds for providing us with a facility" said Recreation and Sports Coordinator, Jeren Seibel.
